JM Energy was founded in August 2007 as a group company of JSR Corporation. We develop, produce and sell the innovative electric storage device, lithium ion capacitor (LIC), taking advantage of the materials and precision processing technologies of JSR Corp.

LICs have large electrostatic capacity, high power density and excellent cycle life durability, much like conventional electric double layer ultra capacitors (EDLCs), while enabling higher energy density and higher maximum voltage than EDLCs.
LICs will provide a new solution to design products that are lighter, smaller, and more efficient.

Responding to the social and economic demand for the efficient use of energy using electric storage systems, LICs will provide improved instantaneous charge and discharge capability, efficient energy recovery, and electricity leveling functionality for the wind and solar renewable energies, automotive and AGV industries, voltage sag mitigation systems, and various industrial machinery.

JM Energy founded its R&D facilities as well as the world‘s first commercial scale production plant of LICs in late 2008 in Hokuto city, Yamanashi, Japan. JM Energy is determined to design, develop, produce and deliver innovative, state-of-the-art electric storage devices to help the preservation and conservation of our natural resources　and therefore benefits not only our customers, but ourselves and our descendants.

JSR Corporation

JSR Corporation was founded in 1957 and has solidified its position as a leading company in petrochemical businesses such as synthetic rubber, emulsions and synthetic resin. In addition, JSR has applied polymer technology, which was developed over many years, to the information and communication fields through display, electronic and optical materials. The company has also obtained a high market share in information electric material field during recent years.

JSR Corporation has focused on environment & energy for business growth in its new mid-term plan “JUMP 2010”, and is working to integrate new businesses. JSR’s electrolyte film for fuel cells and materials for lithium ion batteries have been selected by customers for commercial manufacturing. JSR Corporation will work to expand this business, and also to strengthen its base in the environmental & energy industries by developing a capacitor business at JM Energy. It is also expecting high synergy, such as even more efficient material development, by moving into the capacitor business at JM Energy Corporation.

In May 2009, JM Energy became ISO9001:2008 and ISO14001:2004 certified for its quality and environmental management systems.

The JM Energy logo consists of the colors purple and green. The purple color is based on the wing color of the butterfly, “Sasakia-Charonda,” whose largest habitat is Hokuto-city. “Sasakia-Charonda” is a family of Nymphalidae and has been officially appointed as the Japanese National Butterfly. The green color in the logo comes from the color of the leaves on the trees of the well-known Yatsugatake Mountains in Yamanashi.

JM Energy launched its first commercial production plant in November 2008 in Hokuto city, Yamanashi-prefecture. The new plant is the world’s first commercial scale plant for lithium ion capacitors. We will deliver high quality products to our global customers from Yamanashi with excellent quality.
